> NETFILE Quebec is really two transmissions. A Quebec resident sends a federal T1 to the CRA through NETFILE and a separate provincial TP-1 to Revenu Quebec through NetFile Quebec, usually from the same authorized software. Each agency has its own eligibility rules, confirmation number and processing. Both returns are due April 30, or June 15 for self-employed filers.

## Key facts

- Returns a Quebec resident files: Federal T1 (CRA) and provincial TP-1 (Revenu Quebec)
- 2026 opening date, both services: February 23, 2026
- Quebec amended returns online (2026 season): 2022 to 2025
- Proof of a Quebec online filing: Confirmation message with a reference number
- 2027 NetFile Quebec opening date: Not yet announced

## Why NETFILE Quebec means two returns

Quebec is the only province that runs its own personal income tax system. Everywhere else, the CRA collects provincial tax on the federal return. A Quebec resident therefore owes two returns each year: the federal T1 to the CRA and the Quebec TP-1 to Revenu Quebec.

When people search for NETFILE Quebec, they usually mean one of two services. **NETFILE** is the CRA channel for the federal return, described in our [NETFILE guide](https://canadataxdesk.com/netfile). **NetFile Quebec** is the Revenu Quebec feature built into authorized commercial software that sends the provincial return. Most products prepare both returns from the same data and transmit them one after the other.

> **One transmission is not both:** A confirmation from the CRA says nothing about your Quebec return, and the reverse is also true. Check that you received two separate confirmations before you close the software.

## CRA NETFILE vs NetFile Revenu Quebec

The two services opened on the same day in 2026, February 23, but they accept different years and refuse different situations. The table sets out what each one accepted during the 2026 season.

| Point | CRA NETFILE (federal T1) | NetFile Quebec (TP-1) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Original returns accepted | 2018 to 2025 | 2025, plus 2022 to 2024 within 4 years after the tax year |
| Amended returns online | ReFILE: 2022 to 2025 | 2022 to 2025 |
| Older amendments | Change my return or Form T1-ADJ | Form TP-1.R-V, by mail |
| Proof of filing | CRA confirmation number | Confirmation message with a reference number |
| Paid preparer consent form | Form T183 | Form TP-1000.TE-V |

Federal and Quebec online filing, 2026 season

For corrections, the federal side goes through [ReFILE](https://canadataxdesk.com/netfile/refile-cra-amend-return) and the Quebec side through the amended-return option in your authorized software. Revenu Quebec will not take an online adjustment while the return is still being processed, so wait for the notice of assessment first.

## Codes and identity checks for each agency

### Is there a NETFILE Quebec access code?

The 8-character access code on your federal notice of assessment belongs to the CRA and only applies to the federal return. Our [access code page](https://canadataxdesk.com/netfile/netfile-access-code) explains where to find it. Revenu Quebec's online filing page does not list an access code as a requirement for NetFile Quebec itself.

### Tax Data Download for the Quebec return

Revenu Quebec offers Tax Data Download, which fills in employment, retirement and investment income, benefits and indemnities, instalment payments and interest paid by Revenu Quebec. To use it you need three items: the number of your Quebec notice of assessment, your social insurance number and your date of birth. You must still check every amount it inserts.

### If a preparer files for you

An accredited person can file the TP-1 once you both sign two copies of Form TP-1000.TE-V. Each of you keeps a copy for 6 years from the filing date. To download your slips, the preparer needs a power of attorney (Form MR-69-V) or your download code, and only you can get that code, for example through My Account for individuals.

## NetFile Quebec says you are not eligible

If the software reports that your Quebec return cannot go online, one of Revenu Quebec's restrictions usually applies. These lists are separate from the [CRA's NETFILE exclusions](https://canadataxdesk.com/netfile/netfile-eligibility-rules), so your federal return may transmit while the Quebec one is refused.

### Personal situations that force a paper TP-1 (2025 tax year)

- Your social insurance number starts with 9 and no earlier return was processed for you, unless you are a new resident, a foreign student, in Canada temporarily or a refugee protection claimant
- You have a temporary identification number starting with 0
- You went bankrupt in 2025 or 2026 and are not discharged
- You did not live in Quebec on December 31, 2025, or your address is outside Quebec (a business owner resident elsewhere in Canada filing Form TP-25-V is the exception)
- Your only address is a post office box
- You are asking for an adjustment on line 402 of Schedule E, or sending a second original return for the same year

### Income and form limits

Content can also block the Quebec transmission. Examples include employment income earned outside Canada, disposing of more than four immovables or depreciable properties, more than nine business or rental statements, Form TP-766.2-V to average a retroactive payment, more than 10 designated foreign properties per type on Form TP-1079.8.BE-V and more than 10 types of cryptoassets in a section of Form TP-21.4.39-V.

> **A difference on deceased returns:** The CRA's NETFILE refuses every deceased person's return. Revenu Quebec's form list only blocks filing more than one return for a deceased person for the year, so a single Quebec final return may still go online.

### What to do when you are excluded

1. Keep sending the federal return by NETFILE if the CRA accepts it; the two filings are independent.
2. Print the TP-1 from your software along with Form TPF-1.U-V, Income Tax Return Data, which carries the two-dimensional barcode.
3. Mail both to Revenu Quebec before the deadline. Do not attach RL slips or receipts unless asked, but keep them.

## When NetFile Quebec is not working

Before assuming a restriction, rule out timing. Revenu Quebec shuts NetFile Quebec during scheduled system closures; the one before the 2026 season ran from January 31 to February 22. Any Quebec return sent in that window will fail, just as federal returns do during the CRA shutdown.

- Confirm your software is on Revenu Quebec's list of authorized products for that tax year.
- Install the latest update; transmission fixes are often released during the season.
- If you already filed the Quebec return, a second original for the same year is refused. Use the amended option instead.
- If the federal return is the one failing, see [NETFILE not working](https://canadataxdesk.com/netfile/netfile-not-working) for CRA-side causes.

To check whether the Quebec return arrived, use My Account for individuals or Revenu Quebec's Refund Info-Line online service. Once processed, each line of the return appears there.

## Deadlines for both returns

Both agencies use the same calendar for individuals, set out in our [tax deadline page](https://canadataxdesk.com/filing/tax-deadline-canada). Payment dates are the part people miss, because two balances go to two different agencies.

| Situation | Federal T1 (CRA) | Quebec TP-1 (Revenu Quebec) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Most individuals, file and pay | Friday, April 30, 2027 | Friday, April 30, 2027 |
| You or your spouse ran a business, filing | Tuesday, June 15, 2027 | Tuesday, June 15, 2027 |
| Balance owing for self-employed filers | April 30, 2027 | April 30, 2027 |
| NETFILE and NetFile Quebec opening | Not yet announced | Not yet announced |

Due dates for 2026 returns filed in 2027

Worked example: a couple where one partner drives for a delivery app has until June 15, 2027 to file both returns for each spouse, four returns in total. If the federal return shows $600 owing and the Quebec return $700, both amounts are due April 30, 2027, paid separately to the CRA and to Revenu Quebec. Revenu Quebec charges interest on any unpaid balance after the deadline, and filing on time avoids a late-filing penalty even if you cannot pay.

Quebec tax rates are published by Revenu Quebec rather than the CRA; see Quebec tax brackets for the figures.

## Common questions

### Do Quebec residents file two tax returns?

Yes. A Quebec resident files a federal T1 with the CRA and a TP-1 with Revenu Quebec. Authorized software can prepare both, but each is transmitted and assessed separately.

### Is NetFile Quebec the same as CRA NETFILE?

No. NetFile Quebec is Revenu Quebec's online filing feature for the provincial return, while NETFILE is the CRA's service for the federal return. They have different eligibility lists and year ranges.

### Do I need a separate code for Revenu Quebec?

Not to file. The 8-character access code is a CRA code for the federal return. For Quebec Tax Data Download you enter your Quebec notice of assessment number, social insurance number and date of birth instead.

### Why was my federal return accepted but my Quebec return refused?

The two agencies apply different restrictions. A post office box as your only address or a temporary identification number starting with 0, for example, blocks NetFile Quebec even when NETFILE accepts the federal return.

### Can I amend my Quebec return online?

Yes, for 2022 to 2025 during the 2026 season, using authorized software or Revenu Quebec's online services, once the original has been processed. For years before 2022, mail Form TP-1.R-V.

### Should I mail my RL slips with a paper Quebec return?

No. Revenu Quebec asks you not to send RL slips, federal slips for Quebec income or receipts unless it requests them. Keep them in case of a review.
